May 11-13, 2018 Venice International University
This is the 2nd edition of the simulation of the EU legislative procedure, open to university students, jointly organized by VIU - Venice International University, Università Ca' Foscari Venezia and Venice Diplomatic Society (VDS), with the support of
Europe Direct Venezia and the collaboration of EIUC Venice and BETA Italia - Bringing Europeans Together Association.
The VeUMEU is an excellent opportunity for students to gain an understanding of multilateral diplomacy, and to hone their negotiating and leadership while practising public speaking.
Students will learn about the legislative process, rules of procedure, revision and introduction of amendments and how to draft EU Directives and Regulations.
Participants will act like real MEPs or Council delegates; a group of students will also form the Press Corps, reporting on developments during the weekend of activities.
The Venice Universities' Model European Union will take place at Venice International University with a focus on education and environment.
Places are limited and participation is open to students of Ca' Foscari, EIUC, VIU and VIU member universities with an interest in international relations, international law, environmental protection and European Union working procedures.
The participation in the VeUMEU simulations is free of charge. Lunch break and public transports are at participants’ expense.
Application deadline: March 31 ONLY through VIU website
admitted candidates will be notified by: April 6
selected candidates must confirm their participation by: April 11.*
* Withdrawals after April 11 will be accepted without consequences only in case of: certified university commitments and health issues. Applications and attendance
The participation is open to students of Ca' Foscari, EIUC, VIU and VIU member universities. This activity is highly recommended for students attending the VIU course S1813 Global Governance for Peace and Security, Cooperation and Development (Prof. Sara De Vido).
The selection of the participants and attribution to institutions/commitees will be supervised by the Organizing Committee in order to reach the highest level of international participation.
A preparatory intensive workshop will be organized at Venice International University on April 21, from 9am to 4pm.
Participants must attend at least 70% of the activities (VeUMEU May 11-12-13 and the preparatory workshop), a certificate of attendance will be issued.
This year's VeUMEU will be dedicated to the memory of Prof. Hiroshi Nishihara from Waseda University, who taught at VIU in Fall 2017 and who died suddenly in January 2018.
